What are these photos about?
Wayang Kulit is a a traditional Javanese theatre show, which involves intricately crafted shadow puppets, hence the word Wayang Kulit, if translated to English it means shadow play. A beautiful traditional form of entertainment that is unfortunately banned in Malaysia, but hey, let’s not go there.
Wanting to keep their name as Asian and perhaps Malaysian as possible, the boys chose the name somewhat randomly, but if you think about it, it’s really appropriate. You see, Wayang when directly translated means play/show and Kulit means skin, what better name to use than Wayang Kulit?
Last September, the boys of Wayang Kulit made their way to Iceland for a tattoo convention and then some…
The boys spent the first couple of days in Reykjavik for the Icelandic Tattoo Expo, before we all headed out for another week checking out Iceland.
Siggi!! Icelandic hospitality at its best!
Road tripping around Snæfellsness and Jökulsalron.
Driving around Iceland is so beautiful that you will finally understand why their musicians can come up with the amazing music that they do.
Having traveled around many times together, Julian and Joe finally found the perfect spot and time to give each other a trip tattoo. It was a great spot that we found, it was quiet and away from people. They made it even more traditional by finding rocks from around the area as replacement grips to tie their needle around. As they were exchanging tattoos, we could even hear icebergs cracking and falling into the lake nearby, something we all never expected to experience.
Can you guess what they tattooed on each other? It’s the first photo above.
This year, they will be making their way back there again for this year’s tattoo expo! Hit em’ up if you’re there and want to get some awesome work done.
