Just slightly over a year ago, I spent some wonderful solo time in Polonia. This time, I returned to the European region with my younger sister to visit Croatia, otherwise known as Hrvatska in Croatian.
Our trip started out with a cancelled flight due to technical issues, which resulted in us losing out a whole day in the capital, Zagreb. Yes, cuss we did.
Cuss. We. Did.
So, 24 hrs later than our original ETA, we found ourselves slightly burning under the sunny, clear skies in Zagreb.
I'm usually an aisle seat kinda passenger, but I figured that since I'm flying into somewhere I've never been... window seat would be the right thing to do.
Just look at how beautiful it is! I'm not sure though if these were Turkey or Iran, but really it's either one. Heh.
Bla . Bla. Bla. AirBnb.
Since we had only one day to check out Zagreb, (no thanks to that cancelled flight) we decided to take it easy and just have short walk around where we stayed. We also decided to check out two museums.
First up was the Museum of Broken Relationships, which was recommended by a friend. It was quite an interesting one I'd have to say. People would donate in an item from their broken relationship and share their story. The saddest one for me is this caterpillar that you see. I think this museum is not for everyone, it would appear as boring and a waste of money to some, while for others... there's lessons to take away, bitter sweet stories to read and perhaps some might find comfort in it.
Next, we went to the Torture Museum. It's a really small one, but I liked how they really set the mood in the place. I think most of the instruments/devices on display are replicas. If you're into the macabre like me, do visit!
Combining the first and last day of Zagreb in one post as we barely spent time in the city when we got into Croatia, we decided to spend an extra night before we left for home.
Our last two nights in Zagreb was extra nice because we stayed in a lovely apartment and had kick ass food. We booked our apartment quite last minute, but was definitely pleased with it. Montevideo Apartment was in an excellent location with nice, chic decor.
The owner recommended us to a really yummy place for dinner, which I think was much needed. My sister and I agreed that it was the best meal we had from the trip. Mundoaka was situated almost right smack in the center and was only a 5 minutes walk away from our apartment. Excellent service that I even left a trip advisor comment, ha! So, if Zagreb happens to be one of your soon to be destinations, I highly recommend Mundoaka.
Next up, Plitvice Lakes!!
