About an hour's drive was what everyone at Twyfelfontein told me when I asked how long would it take me to my next destination, Palmwag.
I think it took me two hours.
I blame the innate fear of puncturing a tyre. Even though I had a full show and tell of how to change one back at the rental, I was still weary of it. I've been driving for 20 years now and I've never had to change a tyre, and truth be told I hope I never have to. This is going to sound silly, but my biggest fear was not exactly about the actual act of changing a tyre, but by doing so it would leave me vulnerable... to what lurks out in the beautiful landscape.
The turn off to Palmwag is met with a veterinary checkpoint, you would need to register yourself and your vehicle. It's a pretty fast and simple process, nothing to fret about. I arrived at Palmwag Lodge just in time to quiet down my hungry tummy.
I stayed in a cosy, little hut/camp. I don't know what to call it exactly because it was partial tent. Either way, it was just what I needed after the horrible night in Twyfelfontein.
As I made my way to the poolside to grab some lunch, there was a sign that read Elephant Walk, but much to my disappointment, the waitress told me that the elephant was no longer around and it seemed to have wandered off somewhere. Oh well, I figured I'd be able to see some in my next destination.
After lunch, I head back to my room to chill and I did so outside my room. I was meddling around the binoculars I bought from Swakopmund (because I absolutely forgotten to bring mine from home) and was trying to figure out how to use it.
These photos are basically shot with my phone, looking through the binoculars. Silly, I know.
Much to my very, very pleasant surprise I spotted the elephant! I likened the feeling of spotting the elephant to the first time I saw Dave Grohl in person to my other half. It was true. I don't think I've felt that much of a disbelief in a long time, I supposed it was because of what the waitress had told me. I guess when you have absolutely no expectations and when your expectations are suddenly met, boy it is sweet.
I had only one night in Palmwag unfortunately, which meant I couldn't do their Rhino tracking activity offered the next day. *insert crying emoji*
Nevertheless, I was a happy child since I got to see that elephant.
Next post, Purros.
The best part of my trip!
